Garett Grow
Garett Grow (b. 1984) began studying the piano at age 14. As a youth, he was immediately attracted to the recordings of John Coltrane's classic quartet. Since then, Grow has accumulated a host of eclectic influences that include Olivier Messiaen, Bjork, Ned Rothenberg, Radiohead, and Tin Hat Trio, to name a few; as a pianist and improviser, he cites the contributions of Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, and Brad Mehldau.
After completing his degree at UNR (Bachelor's of Music, Jazz Performance), Grow has developed a unique voice as a composer. His work is highly regarded for its harmonic complexity and conceptualization of instrument roles. |
